Why I love my flipflops!

Because they don't cause blisters.

Enough said.

The boy's karate instructor was forced to close shop, due to the economy, starting a new career and wanting to spend more time with his family. It's frustrating to start going to a new karate group, because you almost have to start over (because of the different kind of disciplines) and he had already worked up to a blue belt. The instructor said he was meeting twice a month with the upper belts to help them complete their black belts. He said 12 year old showed a lot of promise and invited him to join the group. *If you remember, I was very leery of this guy last year. But as the year went by, I became more comfortable with him and the other instructor. I will probably always be hyper-vigilant with adult males that work with my children. Better safe than sorry.

Anyway, if 12's schedule will allow it, he will be able to continue working toward his black belt with the same instructor.

Six is very embarrassed about having to still ride in a car seat. She barely weighs 42 pounds, is petite and still fits comfortably in the 5-point harness car seat.

Yesterday when I picked her up (I have to wait in an incredibly looooong car line (the first day, I had flashbacks of Hurricane Rita traffic) that is still being policed by five patrol cars (at least it's safe!) she got in the car and scooted over to the over side where there isn't a car seat and proclaimed "I think I'll sit here." When I insisted she get in her car seat, she fussed that she is in FIRST GRADE AND STILL SITTING IN A CAR SEAT! And so and so, doesn't have to sit in one!.

Too bad, because if she were to get a cold or pick up a virus tomorrow, she would weigh under 40 pounds.

It's not easy being six.

I'm still plugging along on the Crack the Fat Loss diet. But the weight loss is very s-l-o-w. Grrr.

my kids all stayed in booster seats until the end of second grade. It was not the law (here) then - but it now.

So, here, when they do a K, 1st, OR 2nd grade field trip - everyone's booster seats come to school with them (school has a supply - but not enough for ALL) and now everyone's kids are doing what I was doing with my 19/15/11 year old kids long ago.

I still can't get over the fact that if you kid is in a car - there are safety laws - but you can put them on the back of a motor cycle and take off down the street!!!!

The law just changed in Texas - no longer can children ride on the back of motorcycles - can only ride in side car. Also, car seats/booster seats - are required for (I think) up to nine. I could get a booster - my dad keeps one in his truck for her to use, but I feel she is safer with the 5 point harness. It just never dawned on me that she would feel embarrassed about it.

she IS safer with the 5 point. For as much as my kids griped about the booster - I can imagine how she feels about what she sees as a carseat. I think that my kids were too tall for the carseat (I had the kind where a whole thing pulled down in front of them (like a ride at an amusement park). So mine were all in regular booster.

how tall are you???? I can't remember.

and one complaint that the youngest had when she couldn't fit into the carseat any more was that the booster did not have a side wing to it - to lean against while sleeping. I think she was the kid that WANTED to stay in the carseat.

I'm 5' 3 1/2". 6 is 44" tall. I know because she was about an inch shorter than 45" at Six Flags in early August. 12 is the same height as me though with his tennis shoes on he is taller.

Hey you! Flip flops have been my summer shoes for years, but just yesterday I was thinking that I should get some decent sandals for a change. I just feel more balanced these days...
